Snorkelling fun at Kona
This day was one of the favorite day of our trip to Hawaii. After a relaxing morning breakfast at the resort, we headed to the City of Refuge towards Puuhonua O Hanaunau National Historic Park. The park had some historic site and overlooked the Honaunau Bay. We saw some very interesting Polynesian culture and various Ki’i (carved wooden images) along with housing of the ancestors who had dwelled their in the past. The locals considered this place sacred and till today, they still believed that the spirit of peace surrounds this park. While we visited this park, we found out that Honaunau Beach which was right across of the park was one of the famous beach for snorkelling. Hubby was super excited. The bay was beautiful and we were all set for our snorkelling expedition.
Hubby jumped into the ocean with his snorkelling gears as soon as he got to the beach but I was very hesitant. I loved looking at ocean and feeling the sand on my feet but getting inside the ocean water was still freaky to me as I am not a great swimmer. Hubby convinced me to snorkel and promised me that it would be well worth the risk. Bundled in my life vest, I finally took the jump. I was freaked out for couple minutes as I had never seen coral reef so close to me. However, after some time I really started to enjoy the experience. Varieties of beautiful fishes swimming with us… It was magical! I could say that this was the highlight of my trip. Diving into the ocean and swimming with these colorful fishes and experiencing the water life was an out of the world experience. I was so glad that I was able to overcome my fear of ocean.
We swam for hours with no track of time. It was a wonderful day in the ocean. I’m not sure if I’ve ever experienced anything similar to this feeling before. We headed towards Hilo while making various stops at interesting beaches and large lava rocks. All that swimming was tiring but this day was one of the most memorable day of my life.
Till next time,
